11 Ways to be Happier at Work

Almost no one is happy at work. It’s a popular notion that if you are happy at your workplace, then you are doing something wrong. The truth however, is quite the opposite. If you can’t find happiness in what you do, it is really not worth doing it, so here are 11 tips to make you a happier worker, wherever you are.

Start the day on a high.
The moment you walk into the office, be positive, tell yourself that it is going to be a good day. It really sets the tone for how the rest of the day will pan out.

The more decisions you make, the less happy you feel.
Decision fatigue is a real thing because not everything you say yes or no to will be what you think should be done. Some decisions are just hard.

It’s the little joys that keep you going through a dull day.
If you are making progress on a project, take a breath and acknowledge the fact that it has been done and pat yourself in the back.

Be helpful to a co-worker.
It may seem counter intuitive and add more work on your shoulder, but taking the time to help a colleague will really lift your spirits.
Giving makes people cheerful as long as they are sincere about it.

When you reach the end of the workday or shift: 
Look back on the day and be thankful that it ended. It may not have been a particularly rewarding day or it may have been a great one, either way, just be grateful.

When you are done with work, don’t linger, just leave.
Unless you actually have things to do like organise something or be a part of some activity, just leave.

Do not sit for too long.
Every 30 minutes or so, get up and walk. Go for a walk around the office building or if the floor is large enough, go from end to end. It is important that you don’t sit for too long.
While you are at it, make sure you are seated right. Follow ergonomic seating and make sure you are comfortable. Your office is sure to have a number of posters and special meetings where they are explained.

Involve yourself in activities.
If there are games being held, take active part in them, there is sure to be some type of activity club and if there is any way to join it, make it a point to be a part of it, you will make friends and have fun.

Get a hobby outside work.
Learn an instrument, take drama or improv classes, paint, read, anything, it keeps you going and you are sure to feel better every day.

Finally, the most important tip of them all, eat healthy.
Never skip meals, never skimp on meals and never load yourself with sugar and carbs.

A lot of these tips are not all that difficult and if you put your mind to it, it is easily doable. A positive attitude can make all the difference.
